What is seach engine optimization or SEO? Well, SEO is a technique used or incorporated into your website so as when your website is submitted to online search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Bing, Altavista etc, your website will be able to rank higher in those search engines and more people will be able to see your website. We optimize our website in such a way that when a search engine such as Google sends out its web-spider to crawl on your webpage.

It will want to first detect your webpage title and then the keywords and preferably a description of what your website is all about. The more relevant your website in association with your title and keywords, the higher your ranking will be. Other than the search engines are also looking for how popular your website is, i.e. are there many visitors to your website or is there any back linking from other websites to your own webpage. All these must be taken into consideration when doing optimization on your webpage.

So, how are we going to optimize our website? First of all you must have a title to your website. Without one you are like a person with no identity or no name! A title tells the "web-spider" what topic your website is about. Secondly, you need "meta tags" for keywords and description for your website. For example if your keyword is Affiliate marketing, then your meta tag should look something like this: You can have more than one keywords in your meta tag. For meta tag description it goes something like this: So you must have a short description about your website incorporating your keywords into it.

The above are basic things you need to optimize your website. To further optimize it, you can place your keywords into your header, i.e. the first sentence in your website is normally your header. Do not try to stuff keywords into your content for example do not write sentence like; "I like affiliate marketing because in affiliate marketing we do not need to create our own product and affiliate marketing can give us high commission." A better version might be; "I like affiliate marketing because it pays us high commission and we do not need to create our own product". Try to write sentence for human and not for web-spider only!

Next, we can incorporate our keywords into the Alt tag of the images in our website. For example, this will increase the keywords in our webpage and thus the relevancy of our content in relation to our keywords. One last tips is that we can put keywords into our image file name. Example, "affiliate-marketing.jpg" instead of just "image1.jpg'

By doing SEO to your website, you can easily rank in the top 10 of your particular niche in any search engine and thus can increase traffic to your website for free!
