Building an optin list appears to be one of the most talked about items in affiliate and internet marketing. List building and getting traffic seem to be the top topics that internet marketer's are writing about.

Hardly a day will go by that you will not get an email offering a free traffic course or a free ebook on building an optin list.

That being the case, what exactly is an optin list? Here are a few things that describe an optin list. It is:

1. A list of subscribers.

It's a list of people that have subscribed by filling out an opt in form. This opt in form may have been on your website or blog. It may have been inside an article that you posted on your blog.

By filling out the opt in form, the person has agreed to be a subscriber, it's an opt in process implying consent. The person is agreeing to his name and email address being used by you. Sometimes the opt in form may only require that the email address be supplied.

Most people know that they are going to become a subscriber when they fill out the opt in form. Those that don't know it already, soon realize it as they learn more about list building and its necessity to an online business.

2. A list of potential customers.

Most people that are involved in affiliate marketing are aware that when they fill out an opt in form they can expect to receive advertisements in some future emails. That is what list building is all about - building a list of potential customers. The affiliate marketer is building an optin list so that he can send his subscribers, among other things, links to some product(s) that he is promoting in his affiliate marketing business.

3. A list of people that you can build a relationship with.

This is one of the most important aspects of the optin list. It allows you and your potential customer to get to know each other. By providing good content and promoting good products, the people on your optin list come to trust you. This trust can help them in making a decision to buy from you or not.

Also as you get to know what the people on your optin list like and expect you can provide content that will be more useful and you can promote products that better match their needs. This makes for more trust an acceptance of what you are doing.

Building good relationships is an important part of list building.

4. A list of aspiring entrepreneurs.

In all likelihood, the people that are being added to your optin list are interested in starting or improving their own internet or affiliate marketing online business. They could have seen the free ebook that you were giving away on your opt in form as something that has potential to help them in their online business efforts.

They could have decided after seeing some of the posts on your blog that you might be able to provide some content or even some products that could be just what they need to get their online business off the ground.

Things like this are why it is important that you build that relationship with your subscribers.

These are some of the things that make up an optin list. The main key for affiliate marketing is that it is that building an optin list will consume a lot of you time and effort since any business requires customers.
