Is List Building a Part of Your Marketing System?

The Money is in the List! How many times have you heard that? How many times have you ignored it?
Well, it's true, almost. The money is in the whole marketing system, not just the list. There are a lot things that happen before the list.
Below is a brief list and description of what's in the whole marketing system. The outline below is not written in stone and depending on how you choose to do things, not everything will apply to your system. In each category, for all that I listed there is many more things not listed.
Internet marketing. What is your main focus - affiliate or your product marketing?
Ways to market in I.M. Such as by article marketing, AdSense, blogs, websites, ads/ banners, squeeze pages, resell rights, review sites, web 2.0/social media and more. Most will use a combination of some or all of these, but one or two will be the main focus and a few others supporting it.
What is the niche you are in. Just exactly what is your chosen product? And to what group of demographics will you be focusing on. Be specific.
Autoresponder and target market. This is also the time to set up your Autoresponder. At the very least the technical side of it. This is also a good opportunity to set up a draft email campaign with a few emails to help you to start thinking more in depth about the product and its market.
Internet Real Estate. You are going to need some no matter what. This can be ad space to full websites with many pages. Here you will most likely need hosting and domain names to establish your internet presence.
How will you sell to and track your traffic. Most of you are familiar with the 'sells funnel' and what this is about. All the upsells, downsells, backend, different products to sell or give away. This can be as complicated or as simple as you want. From here on it is very important to track your sales process. Statistics can make or break you.
Generating and tracking your traffic. Before anything you had better have some sort of analytics in place. How you generate your traffic depends on the choices you made above and a lot on the amount of money and time you have. Traffic fails into 2 categories, free and paid.
Email marketing. Now that you almost have everything in place it is time to consider your email campaigns. Email marketing is a way to gain trust with your customers, educate them, sell your products and reward them for being your buying customer. You don't always sell, sell, sell.
Building your list. Your list is made up of very special customers, they either opted-in or bought from you. Do not abuse them. Let them get to know you and be honest with them. Your are also gently training them to buy when you want them to and when they do, greatly rewarding them. So always over deliver and under promise and make sure all your products have good value.
Building your list is the end product of every thing above. Not the beginning. It takes some forethought and planning and being realistic about your present capabilities and your future ones. Worst of all, it does take time at the start.
Everything above will be done over and over (testing) until you get what you need: good products, quality buying traffic and a responsive list.
Once you get the hang of this write your procedures down and make it a step by step plan that will be your Marketing System. Then keep improving it, a little here and a little there.
Everybody goes through this trail and error period. Once you understand the process you can see how to quickly build your business with internet marketing.
